Staff thanks

We invite our staff to write a few words about their experiences and thoughts on working at Jenolan Caves. This month, Leah, who was seconded for seven months from the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service, penned a few words.

“As the person who has managed the development of this new website and the 2023 Jenolan brand, I wanted to write a short personal news article about the staff at Jenolan.

The staff here are extremely dedicated and passionate to ensuring you as the visitor have the most enjoyable time possible, in a safe environment. Until the end of October I managed the visitor experience and marketing team including the cave guiding staff however I work across the entire business assisting all teams in making your experience meet your expectations.

If you've been to Jenolan recently you will know that we've had some challenging times including the fires in 2019, COVID closures in 2020 and floods in 2021 and 2022. All in all, this year, 2023, is the longest duration we've been opened for in four years. Our staff have held strong to their values and continued to remain dedicated to protecting this extremely special place. Of course, we don't always get it right but we're always working to improve our customer experience.

I have been extremely honoured to work at Jenolan and am proud to say it’s made a significate mark on me. There is wonderful conservation research being undertaken including Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies and Platypus research along with cave spiders and bat research. The staff continue to preserve these heritage grounds and the famous heritage Caves House. Staff protect the above ground reserve as much as they do the below ground cave system, and what a reserve it is!

We continue to conduct training to ensure you're safe when you visit which is a primary focus of Jenolan. Some training we've conducted recently include remote first aid and oxygen training, the prevention of sexual abuse, snake handling, customer service and barista training along with many others. We are always conducting emergency scenario training to ensure if there is an incident we can assist in a timely and professional manner.

Thank you to our visitors in the past for allowing us to educate you on this reserve however we also can’t wait to see all the new visitors who come to visit. Yes, we have some traffic restrictions, but we hope you see this as a part of the journey down into another era of Australian history. It takes a small village to run the operations here at Jenolan and every staff member does their important part to protect and maintain the significance of this historical location for you, as our visitor, to enjoy.

The staff will continue to be the best they can to provide you the best and most amazing experience, we can't wait to see you!”

Regards,

Leah
