"...a kaleidescopic tapestry of vocal hues..." New York Times
"...versatility...virtuosity... a stunning concert." Los Angeles Times

Since 1969, the acclaimed vocal sextet, The Western Wind, from New York, has devoted itself to the special beauty and variety of a cappella music.

Their repertoire reveals its diverse background - from Renaissance motets to Fifties rock 'n' roll, from medieval carols to Duke Ellington, from complex works by avant-garde composers to the simplest folk melodies.

Their extensive recording credits include the Phillip Glass soundtrack to the film Koyaanisqatsi and a Grammy nomination. Narrators on their CDs have included luminaries such as Leonard Nimoy and Theodore Bikel.

Each member of the ensemble is a vocal specialist. They are individually and collectively in demand as professional singers and teachers in New York. They have presented annual vocal ensemble workshops in a number of locations over the past 20 years, including Smith College in Massachusetts, and have toured in Europe, Japan and the US.

This is their debut Australian tour and their first experience of performing in a cave - don't miss the opportunity to hear this world class acappella group in what is possibly the best acoustic on earth for them!  To find out more about this exceptional vocal group, see their website and read their media release.

The concert will take between 2 to 2.5 hours. This includes getting to the Cathedral Chamber (252 steep stair steps), the concert itself (length varies depending on the number of encores), followed by a brief tour of the rest of the Lucas cave.

You can choose to do the brief tour (total of 910 stair steps) which is designed to enable you see all the sections of the cave, in less time than the usual tour. Or if you wish to avoid most of the steps, you can leave the Lucas Cave the same way you entered, without taking the tour.

Have a relaxing getaway at Jenolan Caves - follow up the concert with dinner and overnight stay. We offer accommodation for all budgets, from charming rooms in historic Caves House, to motel-style rooms, backpacker rooms and even self-catered cottages.  Dine in our magnificent, award-winning Chisolm's Restaurant (or enjoy a meal in Jeremiah's Bar).

Suggestion - arrive on Friday afternoon, attend The Western Wind concert, have dinner, stay overnight, spend Saturday exploring spectacular caves (show caves, adventure caving and/or ghost tour in the evening), stay again on Saturday night and go home on Sunday.  There's alot to do at Jenolan Caves - you might want to stay for several days!
