The Chifley cave is full of variety and features large chambers, many richly decorated. It displays all the stunning limestone formations for which Jenolan is famous, including exquisite examples of dogtooth spar crystal (image below). Book now! The Chifley is a good tour choice for all ages, including people with children, for 3 reasons - it's one of the shorter tours at Jenolan, and there are two locations which are illuminated with coloured lights (image below), a reminder of the Chifley's unique history, and enjoyed by all ages. Also, the tour does not retrace its path at any point, keeping everyone fascinated and wondering what's around the corner.
Aside from the range of magnificent crystal formations, the Chifley cave is fascinating from a historical point of view, as your friendly tour guide will reveal:

Jeremiah Wilson, the first official "Keeper of the Caves", discovered the Chifley Cave in 1880, entering through the Madonna Chamber. |
| 2. |
Wilson named the cave the "Left Imperial", the name later being changed to Chifley Cave in 1952 as a tribute to the memory of the Rt. Hon. J.B. Chifley MP, Prime Minister of Australia, and local MP, until 1949. |
| 3. |
The Chifley Cave was the first cave in the world to be lit with electric light, early experiments being carried out by Lieutenant Edward Cracknel as early as 1880.
